Pictures: The Girl from Cairo

Reader(s)!  Please note that sometime over the next week I will be shifting the blog over to http://blog.vickiboykis.com to make room for a front page that doesn’t make me look like a crazed Nutella lover, a fact that people will find out only on the blog. Mwuahahaha.  Not too drastic of a change, but you’ll want to update your bookmarks. RSS shouldn’t be affected *crosses fingers* Danke schoen.

Movie Review: Gift to Stalin (Подарок Сталину) and Interview with Cast

This is not an easy movie to see. In fact, I didn’t want to see it at all and fought with myself because I knew just from the description it would be an impossibly cruel movie about the bodies Stalin left behind.

Photoshop Thursday: Yemen!

There’s something about Yemen that catches the eye and the mind.  Yemen is one of the few countries left that’s not completely tamed, taken over by the McDonalds and Carrefours of the world.  Sana’a, pictured here, is ancient and one of UNESCO’s heritage sites.  At the same time, Yemen is more dangerous than ever, with a border conflict with Saudi Arabia, almost nonexistent human rights, and a serious qat problem.
