Guest Post: Backhanded Compliments

Note: This guest post is by Jane Charney, who I had the good luck of meeting on a Russian Jew trip to Israel about four years ago.  She is thoughtful, intelligent, passionate about her Jewish identity and always has something interesting to add to the debate.  Which is why I hesitated to have her guest post.  We wouldn’t want to up the standards of this website.

Guest Post: Jew Tattoos and Piercings, Too

Note: While I remain in the Land of Falafel, this is a guest post from my fabulous friend Average Jane, or @awapy on Twitter, who’s bailed me out before.

I am in Israel! But the links are still here.  And they are sad. Hey, links, you should have booked your ticket on El Al, too.

Guest Post: Russian Protocol for Safe Travel

Note: If you are reading this post, then we are in Israel and I am definitely not posting anytime soon because I am too busy eating falafel/singlehandedly fighting Hamas.    Today’s guest post is from Marinka, who is also a Russian Jew, and therefore also inherently awesome.  Except, she also has kids AND a cat named Nicki, all of which she deals with deftly and with a sharp wit, so she might just be more awesome than me.  Maybe.

Leavin’ on a Jet Plane…

My heart is in the East, and I am at the ends of the West;
How can I taste what I eat and how could it be pleasing to me?
How shall I render my vows and my bonds, while yet

Zion lies beneath the fetter of Edom, and I am in the chains of Arabia?
It would be easy for me to leave all the bounty of Spain —
As it is precious for me to behold the dust of the desolate sanctuary.

Make sure to stop by next week for some FABULOUS guest posts.  I may be headed to Israel, but Ivan, my upload slave, will make sure to crank out the posts by hand.  This week, I had a guest post from my friend lamenting JDate, celebrated my mom’s birthday, and the Ukraine was weak.

Guest Post: Jewish dating and Christmas brisket

Note: I was at a wedding all weekend in Michigan so had no time to write a post today due to recovering from drinking vodka by drinking more vodka. And shooting some video, for you people, to be posted later in the week.    Thankfully, my friend, reliable Starbucks date, and a person whose wit I am frankly intimidated by, Average Jane, also known as @awapy on Twitter saved the day and wrote this awesome post.

This week, I waxed nostalgic about Bangladesh, wrote my first negative book review for an author I admire a lot, and complained about HIAS.  Next week, I fear I will have even more heady material after an eight-hour trip to Michigan with the family.  Are you ready?
